Bits and Pieces

This is the last post about my goal setting for 2020. I’ve lumped the rest of my goals into categories. While many of these goals do not directly impact my marriage, they do need to be run past the filter of “How will they impact my marriage and lifestyle?” This becomes more about margin and general sanity. Because of this, I plan on holding my goals loosely and I’m willing to change them up or drop them as necessary. These goals are an educated guess about what I hope to accomplish this year.

OCCUPATIONAL / VOCATIONAL

  • Make regular time to work on and improve The Marriage Bed site. – Paul and I started this site back in the late ’90s (a safe place for Christians to learn about sex). It has a new look, but content needs to be updated and added to. There’s a Spanish version in the works as well. Starting out I have one workday a week with a list of things I’d to work through.
  • Create a writing schedule for TGW posts. – I’m going to trial-and-error a writing schedule again. Writing daily is OK, but I’d love to have a cushion of posts in pending and have regular brainstorming days for post ideas. I also have some clean up to do. We’ll see how this goes.
  • Be more regular about posting on Meemaw’s Place. – This is where I showcase my art and talk about life. Because it is more play than work, I tend to let it go when life gets a bit crazy. I am planning on posting at least two times a week (eventually I’d like to bump it to three). Again, we’ll see how this goes.

FINANCIAL / OFFICE

  • Update our budget. – It’s a new year and life has a way of changing. Paul and I are looking at our finances and tweaking the budget.
  • Update and clean up my files and folders (hard copy and digital). – Information needs to be updated and stuff gets messy with use, so I’m slowly working through all the papers and files. I have a regular office day.
  • Keep the email corralled. – I started playing with a new system for dealing with emails last year and now I generally keep my email Inbox under a dozen. I haven’t lost anything important so I figure it’s working pretty well.
  • Bookkeeping, bookkeeping, and more bookkeeping. – Sigh. It just is what it is … a necessary evil. My goal is to stay current week by week, both ministry and personal (which is the one I tend to get behind on when I get busy).
  • Trello. – This is my magic bullet. I used to have a bullet journal (which I totally love), but I lost it for a couple of days and I don’t ever want to go there again. I’ve essentially moved my bullet journal to Trello. It doesn’t translate perfectly, but it’s pretty close and I can access it from my phone, tablet, and computer (and I can’t lose it!). I can put all my goals there, plan out the baby steps, and track progress.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

  • Be more consistent with housework. – I lost any semblance of a schedule due to house construction and winter mess. And while that’s understandable, the dust on my desk is threatening to engulf my computer and my kitchen cabinets are a bit scary. It’s time to get back to routinely dealing with housework. I signed up for 52 Weeks to an Organized Home (from Home Storage Solutions 101) to help me take back control of my home a baby step at a time. Already my kitchen is looking nicer and is more functional. I also created a simple housework schedule where I focus on one room/area of the house each day of the week.
  • Do the next few steps in building our house. – Paul and I have been slowly building out a house from our RV. We did the utility hookups and roof structure last year. We are hoping to get the floors and walls built this year.
  • Plant more trees. – The property we live on was originally heavily forested. Over time, trees have been downed to make room for buildings and age and disease have taken down a few. We’re starting to see a little too much empty space. We’ll be planting more trees this year and generally working with the landscape around our home.

Well, that’s it. I’m good to go for 2020.

A goal properly set is halfway reached. Zig Ziglar

  1. The best speech Lincoln ever gave
at Gettysburg, that cold fall day,
was for the nation he would save,
and he wrote it on the way
    to that windy speakers’ stand
that looked over the hallowed ground
that was made from blood-soaked land,
and the wistful shades were gather’d ’round.
For him it was a little thing,
penned in haste, and spoke while ill.
Did he realize what it would bring,
a new resolve and strengthened will?
Life’s bits and pieces need our best
for their care may be our test.

Your posts through out 2019 about yearly goal progress was inspiring to me, and I’ve created my own list of goals and workable steps to work on through 2020. Thank you!
