I think there is a common cultural lie that says, “If it doesn’t come naturally for you, it must not be you.” There are variations on this theme, of course, but they all come down to pushing us toward easy and giving us an excuse not to do the hard stuff.
Now, honestly, I love easy. I love it when I want to do something and it just comes together well with no snags. I’m grateful for my talents and abilities. I enjoy running with what is easy for me.
Here’s the kicker, though. Much of life that is truly important takes a fair amount of effort and sometimes just plain ol’ hard work.

I grew up playing the piano (my mom insisted). I’m naturally a bit musical, but I didn’t become a better musician until I practiced and then practiced and then practiced some more. I had to put in the work to get the result.
What’s really important to you (I’m hoping your marriage is on the list)? What would you like to see happen?
Yes, it would be nice if it were all easy (and much of it may be), but will you plan and then do what needs to be done to get where you want to be? Will you do the hard work? Will you read a marriage book, have that conversation with your man, or talk to a marriage counselor?
Don’t let your marriage slide because parts of it are not easy. Buckle down and make the effort. Learn. Practice. Fight for what you want.
Do the hard work and grow an amazing marriage.
A dream doesn’t become reality through magic. It takes sweat, determination and hard work. Colin Powell
