Paul and I are not really preppers, but we have been talking about what we could have done in preparation for this time had we known it was coming.

We’re talking about food storage, necessary items, and ways to handle various lifestyle challenges. We have wills and our paperwork ducks are in a row. I figure it’s only smart to think things through and make a few plans.
Have you and your sweetie talked through the stresses and strains of this season? Are there things you might do as smart preparation for future difficult seasons?

I grew up in a doomsday sort of culture. My mom is a dispensationalist End Timer, and my dad is an arm chair revolutionary with a bug-out bag and a box of MREs in a closet.
I was a prepper homesteader, but hated the clutter of all the stuff, and the waste of food. I lived in constant fear that if I got rid of something I would never get a replacement, and even that God would punish me for being a bad steward. It became oppressive, so I stopped and freed myself from it.
Now, I store up stuff for winter, use what’s left in spring, and replenish slowly over summer and fall.
Anything beyond that I’ll trust God for.
Nice. Yes, I have a list of things to grab if we have to leave the house quickly (forest fires) and I’m working to move through the year with enough to handle the change of seasons.
In prepping for disaster,
to what picture shall we yield?
That fear become our master,
or the lilies of the field?
Do we trust the One who made us,
though His grace may be severe,
stand unafraid and blade-less
as the lion’s drawing near?
Or do we curse in darkness
that galls us, makes us blind,
cutting off our harness
to a Christ three times denied?
Can we find, within this test
the way that we become our best?
