Permission to Grieve

The other day I realized I’d been in a funk for more than a week. I was grumpy (maybe even angry) a good deal of the time. I talked to Paul about it and he spoke about how we had all lost something in this COVID-19 season and that was enough to make anyone grumpy.

I realized I had not faced the losses and adequately grieved. It was all leaking out in my grumpiness. So I’ve been spending more time outside soaking in the beauty. I’ve been playing with the bunnies (two new litters!) and gardening (my grandson just demolished my spearmint, thankfully it’s hard to kill).

I’m going to let God lead me through a season of grieving and back into hope.

What have you lost? What has your husband lost? Do give each other permission to grieve. Take your pain to God in prayer and let Him address the hurt and loss. Take whatever time you need before moving into hope.

… do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 1 Thessalonians 4:13b NIV

  • Prayer Prompt: Ask God to walk with you in the grieving seasons.
  • Couples Question: You’re walking down a trail. What do you hope to see?

  1. Each day another tribal war,
    brother killing brother;
    Rachel’s children are no more,
    and are wept for by their mother.
    Their water is polluted;
    their food is sparse and mean.
    At twelve, they are recruited;
    only their guns are clean.
    That they have no future
    is better than their past;
    time’s a fraying suture,
    and they were not born to last.
    There may be much that we have lost,
    but others’ days have higher cost.

    Yep. The more I mature in my faith, the more I see the value of lament. ♥
