It’s the last Sunday of the month and time for a story! :)

I met Felicity and her husband when Paul and I were first starting out in ministry. We were really struggling and they were interested and supportive. (Paul and I created The Marriage Bed back in the late 90’s when Christians were not as open to talking about sex. Yeah, we got kicked around a lot.) It was encouraging to have someone to talk to who didn’t think we were a little on the crazy side.

A part of their comfort with the subject of sex is that Felicity and her husband had both been doctors in the UK. They had four kids (and now they have a bazillion grandkids), moved to the US, created several ministries and businesses. They also travel internationally and teach. Felicity has written a couple of books too.

I do realize in sharing that litany of how she spends her days (and that’s the lite version), that God has gifted Felicity with an amazing number of gifts, but I think the overarching concept here is that she has been faithful to use these gifts in season and she does so with humility.

Given all she has done over her life so far (she’s a celebrity in several circles, really), she could be a little uppity. Yet, she routinely drops what she’s doing to help with “ordinary” work (she’s helped me several times with registration at conferences and then jumped up to speak). I’ve seen her intentionally reach out to the lonely and unlovely in our world (in some pretty sketchy places), serving with patience and gentleness.

She’s been an amazing example to me and an encouragement to serve God with my talents. I’m so blessed to call her my friend.

In closing, I’d like to share one of her favorite sayings.

No empire building. No control. No glory. Felicity Dale

She’s sold out to building the Kingdom of God, calling Jesus Lord, and giving Him all the glory.

Are we faithful to use the gifts that God has given us? Are we giving Him all the glory?
