Lately, I’ve found myself saying something like this to a number of people.
Decide who you want to be and be that regardless of how others act.
If you want to be a kind person, be kind. If you want to be a generous person, be generous. Yes, be aware of others, but don’t let their behavior strongly direct your behavior. You can be kind to someone who is grumpy or generous to someone who is stingy. It’s not about them. It’s about you.

It’s about choosing your behavior instead of reacting to others’ behavior. It can be a sanity saver (or a marriage saver).
Some days your husband will be a sweetie and other days … well, not so much. We are all human and have our off days. If your behavior is all about his behavior, you will have good marriage days and bad marriage days based on where he is at any given moment.
If your behavior is about your choice, you’ll have the satisfaction of being yourself and living from your values. You’ll also have a better chance of helping your sweetie when he’s having a bad hair day.
Be a living expression of your values. Wear them, speak them, make decisions aligned with them. Author Unknown
