Are You Truthful?

My grandson had a meltdown the other day. I held him in my arms and let him cry until he could tell me what was wrong. Turns out someone had told him a lie and it really hurt him and created some doubt.

I said to him with grandma sincerity, “I will always tell you the truth.” He calmed down and we talked about the truth and why someone might lie to him. It was a hard lesson for a five-year-old.

Later, I thought about it and was relieved that he knew me as truthful. I was someone he could trust to help him sort out life’s messes.

And marriage application, of course, does my husband know me as truthful? Can he trust me? That’s so important to the fabric of our marriage.

Are you truthful with your husband? Can he count on you to tell him the whole truth? (If not, now is the time to change that and begin to always speak the truth. An apology or a serious talk may be in order.)

Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.. Colossians 3:9-10 ESV
