Water Your Potatoes

Paul and I have been building the structure for an addition to our house. It’s been challenging but exciting to move forward on this project.

It’s extra work, more than we normally do and we let a few other things slide, some intentionally, … some not.

One thing that got missed was watering the potatoes. Actually it was more like weeding the garden got pushed to the side and the potatoes sort of blended into the weeds and we overlooked them. They’re going to survive, but they’re a bit unhappy.

As I was weeding the garden and catching up on gardening chores, I made the marriage application.

There are busy seasons and it’s understandable that parts of your marriage might get sidelined temporarily. Life happens and you have to deal. That said, do be aware during those seasons, make sure you water your potatoes keep an eye on the important things, and give them a little attention.

A quick hug in the hallway or an emotional check-in over dinner can make a huge difference in a busy season.

The next time you and your husband face one of those times, you might ask him what he wants to hold onto and what things would be OK to let go for a bit.

The best thing to hold onto in life is each other. Audrey Hepburn

Oh, Lori :)–keep an “eye” on the important things…right after talking about *potatoes* (which have eyes) ;)?

    Thanks for the chuckle :)!
