Every evening I put three cups of barley seed into a tray to soak overnight. The next day I rinse the seed and put the tray in a line of trays on a shelf. (This is barley fodder for the bunnies.)

Isn’t this an interesting picture? (Sorry for the weird purple glow of the grow lights.) You can see so plainly the development of the seed into grass. Such a clear picture of the simple truth that you reap what you sow. It’s a natural law that is worked into our world.
When I start the seeds, I could tell myself that they won’t sprout and grow, but if I did so I would just be fooling myself. The nature of a seed is to sprout, grow, and produce after its own kind. (I’m not going to get jelly beans when I plant barley. Darn.)
Let’s talk marriage. Our thoughts, words, and actions are seeds.
We can tell ourselves that bad-mouthing our man isn’t a big deal, that it doesn’t hurt anything … but we’re just fooling ourselves. We could entertain thoughts of another man or sneak a few purchases and tell ourselves nothing will go wrong … but we’re just fooling ourselves. The seeds will sprout, grow, and produce hurt, betrayal, and lack of trust in our marriages.
As an exercise, watch yourself today and listen to your thoughts, words, and actions. What are the seeds you are planting? If you decide you want something different, what kinds of seeds would you like to sow?
Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds that you plant. Robert Louis Stevenson
