Stories – Snookie

Years ago, Paul and I used to run conferences for a non-profit ministry. We met people from all over the US and some from around the world. It was a really great job and we made some amazing friends over the years.

One of those friends was Snookie (not his real name, but that’s what his friends call him). Actually, I think he befriended us. It was his heart to see reconciliation in the body of Christ and we had that in common.

He and a few other guys traveled to various churches (different denominations, different cultures, different races) and shared their hearts, grieved that Sunday morning was the most divided time for believers.

I think the thing that stands out to me the most was Snookie’s graciousness. He met with a fair amount of backlash and he always stayed calm and kind. He didn’t open the door to anger or harshness and always replied with respect and thoughtfulness.

That is one gift I want very much. Life is not always easy and folks don’t always treat me respectfully or kindly, but that is no excuse for bad behavior on my part.

I want to be like Snookie when I grow up ;) and be gracious.

One of the truest signs of maturity is the ability to disagree with someone while still remaining respectful. said by a number of really smart people
