October 2020

Well, winter has arrived where I live. My husband and son finished out the rabbit barn just in time. All our bunnies are snuggled in for the winter and it’s just across our driveway so we don’t have far to walk.

October had a slightly lighter workload. Paul’s down to a once a month blood check and my DIL no longer has PT (though I’m still helping her with the kids and house a bit).

Spiritual Growth –

I love my devotional (Live in Grace, Walk in Love) and I’m giving some thought to what I will read in 2021. My Bible study (with doing) is such an encouragement and my online study of Linda Dillow’s Calm My Anxious Heart is a lovely challenge (I highly recommend the book).

I want to do some thinking about prayer and meditation. My prayer life has been … OK, but meditation is still pretty much a bust. What would it take for me to have them as a more significant part of my life?

Marriage –

  • Be more intentional about conversation.
  • Sex more days than not.
  • Create a bucket list for 2020.
         🗸 Oregon coast
         a writing retreat
Farm to Table event (Mont Lamm)
         Riverfront Park (in Spokane)
🗸 seasonal foraging (morels & huckleberries)
         🗸 Montana cabin with friends

Conversation and sex are on the upswing (as life is becoming more normal) and we actually had a getaway to Montana!

Our friends (who have had COVID) invited us to join them for a weekend at their family cabin. It was lovely.

Family and Friends –

  • Drink more coffee.
  • Babysit the grandkids.
  • Be present and engaged at our weekly family night.

Still talking to most of my coffee buddies by phone/text and watching the grandkids each Sunday evening. I’m also trying to watch them a few times a week so my DIL can exercise. Family night is fun and we’re having more soups and stews because of colder weather.

Personal / Emotional –

  • Be artsy-fartsy.
  • Play in the dirt.
  • Be a good bunny mommy.
  • Learn four new songs on my ukelele.

I actually did some Zentangle this month. Every October there is a list of patterns to play with – Inktober 2020. I knew I wasn’t up to a different tile each day, but I did manage to put all the patterns into one larger piece of artwork.

The garden has been put to bed for the year. I do have a page where I’m collecting all my garden data so I can plan next year’s garden sometime later this winter.

I mentioned last month that one of my does turned out to be a buck and I had a surprise litter (just one kit). Well, we had another litter of seven shortly after that (he was a busy boy).

Here is the one kit at five weeks. Her name is “Uno.”

My house bunny Newton thinks he’s a boot.

Physical –

  • Stick with the 6-8 hour eating window.
  • Have a day of rest each week
  • Develop an exercise program.
  • Keep doing Kegels.

I’m pretty tickled because my eating habits are starting to pay off. I’ve lost 23 pounds this year. :) I’ve started a simple exercise/stretching routine each day because I’m no longer putting in time in the yard and garden. Kegels are a part of my daily routine. With the lighter workload, Paul and I managed to have a couple of days off too!

Occupational / Vocational –

  • Make regular time to work on and improve The Marriage Bed site.
  • Create a writing schedule for TGW posts.
  • Be more regular about posting on Meemaw’s Place (my personal blog).

I’ve kept up the monthly newsletter for The Marriage Bed but I need to get back to editing and writing articles. I’m praying about The Generous Wife in 2021. What does that look like? What kind of improvements or changes do I need to make?

Meemaw’s Place is on hold until I have time to deal with it this winter.

Financial / Office –

  • Update our budget. 🗸done
  • Update and clean up my files and folders (hard copy 🗸done and digital).
  • Keep the email corralled.
  • Bookkeeping – Stay current week by week, both ministry and personal.
  • Trello. LibreOffice

My paper and computer files are lookin’ pretty :) and my Inbox is at a reasonable number. I’m a bit behind in bookkeeping, but November is always my month to double-check everything because end of year reports are just around the corner.

The move to LibreOffice documents has worked for me, especially with all the file cleanup I’ve done.

Physical Environment –

  • Be more consistent with housework.
  • Do the next few steps in building our house.
  • Plant more trees. (🗸1 cherry, 🗸1 tupelo)

My home is a bit messy with garden produce and tracked in winter snow, but all in all, I’m feeling good about my home.

We’ve done a bit more insulating and cleanup, but no house building right now because of wood shortages and higher prices.

No new trees planted. It’s frozen ground from here on out.

Welcome, November!

I love your end of the month posts, not exactly sure why though.
Blessings as we go through the holiday season. Mine will be different this year without my husband, he passed away last February. All in all my life is good, I moved closer to my son and his family!
    Blessings to each of you.

I’ve been getting your emails for years, and I’m not sure if I’ve ever commented or let you know how much I appreciate your encouragement (my husband also gets the generous husband emails and he isn’t an email reader, but he reads that one). We have 4 teenagers and with things shut down and activities canceled, everyone is home much more often. My husband and I don’t have a lot of privacy. Even our bedroom is next to our kids’ rooms. Teenagers thrive on very little sleep, so this adds to our lack of privacy. Over the past almost eight months, my husband and I have found it difficult to have sex because of our close quarters with so many teenagers. When they were younger they had bedtimes and they would sleep and if they did wake up at an inopportune time they didn’t know what was going on. Now, I feel very self conscious because I don’t want to get caught. Any ideas for us?
