Nuke the Grumbling

Do all things without grumbling or disputing. Philippians ESV

I’ve been thinking about this scripture in light of my marriage.

I don’t think the apostle Paul is saying we shouldn’t talk about things that need fixing or that we shouldn’t work through our differences. I think he’s addressing a heart attitude of selfishness and disdain.

When we mutter under our breath, roll our eyes, demand our own way, or generally drop the team mentality, we are sowing seeds of division in our marriage.

This week, let’s keep an eye on our attitudes and be more intentional about being thoughtful, kind, and gracious when we face difficulties and differences. When you find yourself grumbling and fussy, pause and pray. Ask God to help you change your attitudes and work for positive and caring solutions.

Every time I read that scripture, I want to grumble about it. LOL. Yep, it’s one of those that’s particularly convicting for me. And I like that you include examples of nonverbal ways we grumble about our spouse. I did that a lot when our marriage wasn’t good, and it didn’t help anything. Better to decide which issues to let go, which issues to address with your spouse, and which issues to work on yourself. <3
