Most Important

Grab your sweetie and a calendar (turn to December).

Ask him to help you put the most important things onto this month’s page first. What few things need to be there for him and for you. When you talk about those things that are less important, look for ways to remove them or defer them to January.

The idea is to have a couple of weeks that include only the good stuff and a fair amount of margin.

(If either of you has 53 things that you want to add as “important”, I encourage you to talk through your standards. Or perhaps rank those things from most to least important and add the top few to your calendar. You can do more if you have the time, energy, and want-to, but you are aiming to add only those things that have great value to either of you.)

If you like how your December runs, consider doing this each month in 2021.

You must create more margin so you have room for what’s important, not merely urgent. Michael Hyatt
