Time Off

The other evening, Paul and I found ourselves parked on the couch exhausted.

I’m not sure what factored into that exhaustion (probably a bunch of little things ganging up on us), but we looked at each other and promised we would make the following day a time of care for ourselves and each other. We’d do the minimal work (bunnies gotta eat), but we would set aside what we could and rest.

Honestly, it was both a hard and an easy choice. Hard because we have responsibilities and easy because we’ve learned that we don’t do life well when we’re that tired.

When you’re exhausted (or you see the signs in your sweetie), do take some time off. It doesn’t mean you’re lazy or weak. It means you’re smart enough to take care of yourselves.

I do understand that some seasons make that harder than others. That just means you have to be a bit more creative about how you do it (my son and DIL take shifts with their little ones). Napping or just resting for 20 minutes can make a huge difference.

Take rest; a field that has rested gives a beautiful crop. Ovid
