Prayer for the New Year

Today is the first Sunday of the month (and year!). I invite y’all to pray with me for our marriages.

Please pause a moment and ask God to move in the marriages represented by The Generous Wife list. Feel free to include couples that are family and friends too!

Last year was full of stresses and strains. For many couples, those pressures revealed issues to be faced and work to be done. Please pray for strength and encouragement to face and deal with areas of needed change and growth.

Please also pray for wisdom and direction for couples, for opportunities to learn and mature in marriage skills, and for practical solutions to problems they face.

Let’s make this a year of holding our marriages up in prayer. (As an aside, I’ve started praying for my marriage each morning after reading my devotional. It’s helping me build the habit of talking to God daily about my marriage.)

If you have any personal prayer requests, feel free to leave them as a comment to this post (this is a public forum, so be discreet and kind).

And so I urge you: carry on an ongoing conversation with God about the daily stuff of life, a little like Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof. For now, do not worry about ‘proper’ praying, just talk to God. Richard J Foster

  • Prayer Prompt: Ask God to work in the marriages of generous wives everywhere (family and friends too).
  • Couples Question: Courage is the theme for the day. How do you live it out?

  1. You’ve held my feet unto to the fire,
    God, so you’d ensure
    my ego couldn’t in pride retire
    from knowledge of the failure
    that I’ve been in much of life,
    and in marriage most of all;
    so many times I left my wife
    right back of the eight-ball.
    I didn’t mean to cause distress,
    or undermine her dreams;
    my paraigm was just a mess,
    or at least it’s how it seems,
    so turn, me, Lord, from clownish knave
    to something that might look like brave.

  2. Such a good reminder Lori! I guess I tend to be pretty silent to God about my marriage unless I’m feeling a bit stressed. ;) Thanks for the encouragement!
