One Thing

Ask your sweetie if there is one thing you can do or change that will make his life easier or better this year.

For me, it is staying on top of the dishes. Paul does most of the cooking and walking into a messy kitchen discourages him. If I do dishes after lunch (just a few bits usually) and after dinner (a more thorough clean) that takes care of it.

Now I’ll own that washing dishes is not the most exciting thing I do in my day, but it’s a practical need and it encourages my man. It’s worth the effort and self-discipline (plus I love waking up to a clean kitchen).

Do consider seriously taking up the challenge of meeting your husband’s one need/want this year. It’s a practical way of saying, “I love you.”

(If you don’t think you can do or do easily what your husband asks for, consider his “why,” “what,” “how,” and “when” and look for other options to meet the need of his one thing.)

We change the world when we simply meet the needs of another. Kristen Welch

  1. Is there something I might do
to make you smile, lift spirits up,
    like not spitting baccy chew
    into a leaky paper cup?
Perhaps, my dear, I should have nixed
    the ancestral redneck link
that saw, last week, your fuel pump fixed
    in your kitchen sink.
And I might just put restraint
on my sense of humour, soon,
for the pastor’s wife did faint
when I that man did moon.
Just please say you don’t want gone
the Elvis statue from our lawn!
