I’ve been working on my 2021 goals lately and it’s really brought home to me how easy it is to wear myself out or get distracted by the things of life. Being intentional about growing and changing means examining how I use my time and energy. It also takes some pretty serious self-examination of my values and personal integrity. (And, yes, that process has been a bit ouch-y.)
That said, I want to talk a bit about sex in marriage.
Sex is a part of the fabric of your marriage. It’s something profoundly intimate that you only do with your husband. When you get busy and put your marriage on autopilot or when you get a bit lax about sexual safeguards, you are endangering this important part of your marriage.
I get that the busyness of life leaves you tired at the end of the day and our culture is inviting you to read sexy novels and friend your ex-boyfriend on Facebook. I guess my thought here is, we need to be serious about dealing with the distractions and temptations. What are we actually going to do about it?

Will we continue to build a busy life and fall exhausted into bed each night (sorry, honey, zzzzzz) or will we be intentional about keeping back enough time and energy to meet our husbands in the bedroom, fully present? Will we prayerfully choose our influencing friends and say no to those things that will turn our hearts away from our husbands? Will we build our marriage friendship, so sex doesn’t become something we check off our to-do list because we are supposed to have sex?
Back to making goals and living intentionally. I think the bottom line is that if we want healthy marriages with a healthy sex life we will have to think about it, get practical about it, and walk it out.
What change (even a small change) could you make this year that would make it possible for you to be present and enjoy sex?
If you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time. Zig Ziglar
