Making Time

❤ ❤ ❤ 15 days to Valentine’s Day! ❤ ❤ ❤

I was having a discussion with a friend about making time for the important people and things in our lives.

I was born organized, so my take went something like this. “I get all my ‘have to’s’ done first thing and then I am free to pursue interests or hang with people the rest of the day.”

She is a free-spirit creative person so she was like, “Wow. You really do that?”

Yup, I really do. I try to keep my “have-to” list very reasonable, but when I’m done for the day, I’m really done. I don’t have responsibilities hanging over my head, and I’m free to play. (I have a couple of last thing at night chores to do, but I’m off until then.)

Now realize, my children are grown so I am past the pick-up-after-the-little-ones-all-the-time season of life. But that said, if you want to have a functional home, get your work done, and have time for people, it helps to have a reasonable to-do list and a plan (of some sort). Then you can give yourself periods of time where you can just be with your people or chase a passion.

Depending on personality type and various other lifestyle factors, we’ll all do that a little differently. And that’s perfectly OK. Find what works for you. If you need a few ideas to try, check out these books.

To have a life enjoying the people and things you love, you need to make time for them. Certainly, that’s about having open blocks of time, but it’s also about reducing your load so you have the energy for the important stuff as well. (Yeah, I hate cutting back or saying no sometimes, but I honestly can’t do it all, so I choose to make time for the important stuff and let the rest go.)
