A Culture of Gratitude

In my home, we say “thank you.” It’s been that way for so long, sometimes I forget that others don’t have that as a part of their family culture.

The other day I said thank you to someone and they looked surprised (almost curious like why would I say that). It actually made me sad. I decided right then and there to be obnoxiously grateful around them. ;) There is something lovely and healing about gratitude and the kindness of thanks.

If thanks are uncommon in your household, I encourage you to start saying thank you … often. Let those around you know that they are noticed and appreciated. You may not see a huge difference at first, but your choice to express gratitude can begin a gracious change in your family culture.

Saying thank you is more than good manners, it is good spirituality. Alfred Painter
