I’ve been pretty stressed lately. A part of it has been a year or so of isolating. Then there have been the months of snow and living more inside than outside (I need to be playing in the dirt and soaking up the blue and green of outside). I’ve had a number of losses and some disappointments. I think the final straw for me has been a shortage of sleep and the clutter that comes with winter (everything comes inside).

I spent yesterday cleaning up and putting things away. I’ve also spent a while looking at my workload. I have a lot on my plate, but the real problem is the pace I’ve set. As much as I want to plow through certain projects, I’m driving myself crazy by trying to do it all … in the next fifteen minutes. Time to put more margin in my day and let projects finish up when they finish up.
I encourage y’all to think as you go through your day and take note of those things that add stress. Then when you have a bit of time, brainstorm solutions. Some of the stressors you won’t have control over (like someone else’s attitude), but many of them can be practically addressed (like making a place for your car keys or doing your laundry on Friday instead of Monday).
Pick one small thing in your house that adds stress to your day. What could you do to eliminate or reduce that stress? After you work on a couple of things, share what you’ve been doing and ask your sweetie what is adding stress to his day. Invite him into the process.
Get practical and make life easier on the both of you.
We must have a pie. Stress cannot exist in the presence of a pie. David Mamet
