Immediately

My sweetie recently wrote an interesting post. Here is part of it.

My Bible reading has landed me in Mark. As I read the first chapter today, I was taken by how often the word “immediately” occurred in the English Standard Version. Other versions use “straightway” or “at once”.

A. W. Pink says the word shows us how Christ serves. “There was no tardiness about Christ’s service, but “straight away” He was ever about His “Father’s business.” There was no delay, but “immediately” He performed the work given Him to do. … There was no holding back, no reluctance, no slackness, but a blessed “immediateness” about all His work. We should all learn from this perfect example which He has left us.”

I like the idea that Mark is telling us how Jesus served and I think we can and should apply that to how we love/serve our wives.

Or for us that would be our husbands.

clock face with word "now"

I’ve been thinking about this quite a bit since I read it. Reading the Word is nice. Doing it is far better.

So what does this mean to me? How does it apply to me? How do I live this out? How do I live this out in my marriage?

Many of the ways I serve my husband are a part of my daily routine. If I stay with my routine everything gets done in a timely way. But there are “one-offs,” things that he asks of me or things I want to do for him. Do I do them “immediately” or put them off for a while (or not do them and give an excuse)?

I think it’s about selfishness when I stall or don’t follow through. I don’t feel like doing it now or I don’t want to do it at all. And then my mind goes on to other things and I conveniently forget.

The next time I am presented with something I need to do to serve my husband (or others) I hope to be aware enough and challenge myself to serve immediately.

The blessing of following His example is amazing. those that are served are blessed and we receive a personal blessing because of the obedience.
