If you listen carefully, from time to time, you will hear your husband wish for something. He’ll mention a book he wants to read or he may talk about a fun time he had camping a few years back.
He might not start his sentence with, “I wish,” but if you listen carefully you can hear wistfulness or desire.

Can you play into those wishes?
Sometimes you can do something immediately (grab him a copy of that book), but other times you may need time to plan and save (a camping trip over Spring break?).
Listen to the tone of his voice. What does he mention in conversation?
Make his wish come true.

Earlier this week I asked y’all to share about your Bible study time, what you study, tools you use, study helps, practical ideas, etc. Your comments were such an interesting read, I gathered and organized them here in one post for us all to enjoy the wealth.

with your husband (apart or together)

Y’all have given me much to think about. I’m probably going to go with a deeper study of a New Testament book, but I do need to look at various helps online and in hard copy.
Oh, and the winner of the giveaway is the 3rd commenter. Congratulations, Lisa Johnson! You’ve won a set of Bible highlighters (or the book of your choice from the Marriage Book Library). I’ll contact you shortly by email.

Sit down with your sweetie and ask yourselves what three small things would you each like to do this month.

It might be something like trying out that new restaurant, weeding the front flower bed, or reading a book about starting your own business.
The idea is to share a few small dreams and make them come true. (If you wander into big dream territory, talk through how you might break it down into smaller bits and get started on one of the small parts this month.)

The other day, Paul made pizza. It’s become one of our favorite meals (he makes great cast iron skillet pizza).
When we eat it, we talk about various options – different toppings we could use, ways to change up the dough, a gluten-free option for the grandson, etc.

The idea is when you find something you enjoy, look for ways to enjoy it again but with variations.
Paul and I could try eating at various pizza places. We could invite friends over for pizza night (everyone brings their favorite toppings). I could buy him socks with a pizza motif (he has a collection of “creative” socks). We could go to the bookstore and look for a book on making pizza (giving us more ideas to discuss).
If you enjoy a thing, it bears exploring in various ways.

I’ve been reading an interesting time management book (I’ll review it when I’m done). One thing that stood out to me is the author’s call to guard blocks of time you’ve set aside for certain purposes.
And, of course, I made the jump to a marriage application.

Set aside regular time for your sweetie and guard that time. (I have a friend that adds planned date times as “appointments” to his calendar as a way of guarding them. He almost never breaks or changes those “appointments”.)
Whether it’s your morning coffee time, date night, or plans to work on a project together, give your together-time the protection it needs. Say no to other opportunities and plan well to minimize interruptions.
Guard your time fiercely. Be generous with it, but be intentional about it. David Duchemin
