Digging Into the Word

Earlier this week I asked y’all to share about your Bible study time, what you study, tools you use, study helps, practical ideas, etc. Your comments were such an interesting read, I gathered and organized them here in one post for us all to enjoy the wealth.

WITH WHOM
by yourself in personal study time
with your husband (apart or together)
with others in a Facebook group, app, small fellowship group at church, ladies Bible study, homeschool Bible class

WHEN
mornings
bedtime
when the kids are quiet or busy
the best time of day for consistency
during coffee time  :)  (gotta love this gal)

WHAT
read through the Bible (in a year, chronologically)
Proverbs (a favorite for several)
Psalms
Matthew, Mark, Luke, & John
Ephesians
Gideon’s story
Joseph’s story
topical studies
(Someone mentioned The Wayfinding Bible which offers three different “routes” of Bible study, depending on how deep you want to go.)

HELPS
devotionals
workbooks/guides
commentaries (Matthew Henry)
Strongs concordance
(One gal mentioned finding great books at thrift stores, garage sales, and library book sales. I’m with her. Our local library has a big old warehouse where they store donated books they can’t use. They make them available to the public for a donation. I’ve found a number of great books for our church lending library and for personal use.)

MORE HELPS
a Bible reading chart to mark off progress
Bible journaling
Bible copy work in a journal

ONLINE HELPS (I have not checked these out thoroughly so keep your brain in gear and read/listen with discernment.)
YouVersion app
First5 app
My Catholic Life emails
Bible Recap 5 minute daily podcast
The Bible Project videos
podcasts by Dr. David Jeremiah

Y’all have given me much to think about. I’m probably going to go with a deeper study of a New Testament book, but I do need to look at various helps online and in hard copy.

Oh, and the winner of the giveaway is the 3rd commenter. Congratulations, Lisa Johnson! You’ve won a set of Bible highlighters (or the book of your choice from the Marriage Book Library). I’ll contact you shortly by email.

Through His Eyes

Take a moment, wander outside a bit, and then enter your home as though you were your husband.

Look at your home through his eyes.

man sitting in comfy chair

Is there a place he can comfortably sit down? Are your family members welcoming? Can he easily get something to eat or drink? How much order/chaos does he have to deal with? Are the spaces and things he needs fairly easy to get to?

If you find the exercise a bit confusing, I encourage you to take your husband along and ask him how he sees your home. What would make home life easier or better for him?

There’s no place like home. Frank Baum, The Wizard of Oz
